I'm Hunter Calamari, a junior at Auburn University studying Finance. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. I'm happiest when I'm around people, whether that's leading a philanthropy event or catching up over coffee.

On campus I serve as Director of Philanthropy for the Harbert Business Council, and I'm a member of Alpha Kappa Psi and the Auburn Finance Society. Last summer I interned with the New York State Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers, where I saw how much good work depends on listening carefully and following through.

Outside of class, golf and basketball are my two favorite ways to spend free time.

Why wealth management

Wealth management interests me because it brings together two things I enjoy: finance and getting to know people. I like working with numbers, but I also want to understand the person behind them—what they’re working toward, what matters to them, and how I can help. Sitting in on client calls has shown me how much of this career comes down to listening and building trust. I want to keep learning about investing and financial planning so I can help people make decisions they feel confident about and build relationships that last.

The Power of Time

Why I love this field: small decisions compound.

Experience & Leadership

The journey so far

Tap any stop to open it up.

  1. A statewide association of ambulatory surgery centers. I spent the summer on data and research work around Medicaid costs.

    • Gathered and organized data from ambulatory surgery centers to support a comparison of Medicaid costs between surgery centers and hospital outpatient departments.
    • Created Excel workbooks to collect procedure volumes, implant costs, and information about cases centers could not accept because Medicaid payments would not cover implant costs.
    • Wrote instructions to help participating centers submit consistent, accurate information.
    • Supported research estimating how much New York's Medicaid program could save by covering implant-related procedures in surgery centers.
    • Learned how healthcare reimbursement affects financial decisions and where patients receive care.
  2. Leading philanthropy has given me an early look at charitable giving: why people give, how causes get chosen, and how to steward generosity well. Those are the same conversations wealth advisors have with clients about their giving goals.

    Spring 2026 · Clothing drive

    Teachers vs. Students

I ran a clothing drive with a competitive twist: teachers offered bonus points to students who donated clothes, and we framed the whole thing as a competition between teachers and students to see who could donate more.

  3. As a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity at Auburn, I’m building relationships with students who share my interest in business while developing my communication, teamwork, and networking skills. Being part of the organization gives me opportunities to learn from others, explore different career paths, and prepare for internships and my future career.

  4. As a member of the Wealth Management branch of Auburn Finance Society, I’m learning how financial advisors work with clients to understand their goals and plan for their future. Through discussions about investing, retirement planning, and client relationships, I’m building on what I learn in class and exploring the day-to-day work of wealth management. It’s also a chance to connect with other students who share my interests as I prepare for a career in the field.

October 2026 · Energy & AI

Powering the AI build-out: small modular reactors

I believe small modular reactors could play an important role as demand for reliable electricity increases.

The IEA projects that global data center electricity use will nearly double from 485 terawatt-hours in 2025 to 950 by 2030, which makes the infrastructure behind AI just as interesting to me as the technology itself.

October 2026 · Precious metals

Gold & silver for the long run

I’m also bullish on gold and silver over the long term.

Gold appeals to me as a store of value during uncertainty, while silver interests me because it combines precious-metal demand with practical uses in electronics and solar energy.

I’m bullish on gold over the long term, but I don’t see it as a guaranteed safe investment. I’m interested in its potential to help preserve wealth during uncertainty, while recognizing that it can experience significant price swings and doesn’t generate income. That balance between its appeal and its limitations is part of what makes it worth studying.

These are areas I want to keep researching, with a focus on whether the price makes sense, what could go wrong, and which companies can turn that potential into results.
